About the Role

The Service Manager leads staff members who install, repair, and maintain heating and air conditioning systems in commercial buildings. This manager works directly with service and install technicians, dispatch personnel, and other managers to ensure customer satisfaction while meeting departmental goals. As a senior company representative, the Service Manager communicates directly with customers, vendors, and suppliers to ensure accurate communication of job or project status and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for P/L performance of the Service Department and delivering results
  • Annual growth of the Service Base to meet organization goals
  • Oversee all Service Department staff including Dispatch and Service Supervisors
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all Work Orders generated in the department
  • Enforce the Company RMP, including minimum contribution margins for all work performed
  • Schedule, direct, and provide technical support for HVAC technicians to meet service demands and customer expectations
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train HVAC technicians as required
  • Supervise and direct HVAC technicians to ensure quality equipment repair, installation, start-up, and operation
  • Review technicians’ work to ensure quality meets established standards and safety requirements
  • Conduct performance appraisals, reviews, and set improvement goals for HVAC technicians
  • Establish and maintain a regular training program on latest service techniques and safety procedures
  • Conduct group and one-on-one meetings with technicians for training, evaluation, and communication
  • Communicate regularly with dispatch to ensure proper scheduling by skill level and efficiency
  • Maintain daily communication with dispatch regarding project status, labor hours, and parts used
  • Address warranty issues, product recalls, and operational problems with vendors and factory personnel
  • Develop and monitor budgets, goals, and objectives to ensure departmental profitability
  • Review work orders, invoices, and time reports for accuracy and timely cash flow
  • Specify and ensure timely ordering of required parts to meet work deadlines
  • Enforce company and department policies among all HVAC technicians
  • Oversee HVAC service vehicles, ensuring proper maintenance, operation, and inventory of parts
  • Stay current with latest OEM training and coordinate technician training
  • Generate sales leads, promote maintenance/service agreements, and develop bids for contract projects
  • Manage larger installation, start-up, and commissioning projects
  • Work with other departmental managers to meet company and departmental goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Five years of HVAC Management related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Some post-high school education from college, trade school, or military
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Ability to read, interpret, utilize, and train on manuals, schematics, and control circuits
  • Technical aptitude with knowledge of local codes and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong conflict management skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and general software navigation
  • Strong personal desire for improvement and ability to motivate others
  • Clean, neat, and professional appearance
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and background
  • Ability and willingness to work non-standard schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays as required

This position is largely sedentary.

Work Environment

This job operates in both an office and a field environment.
