Commercial General Liability Manager
Location: Trenton, NJ (Hybrid – four days onsite in West Trenton, one day remote per week)
About The Role
Our client, a well-established property and casualty insurance organization serving businesses and individuals throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, is seeking a Commercial General Liability Manager to lead and expand its Commercial Claims operation. This is a unique leadership opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of a growing commercial claims department while partnering closely with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop Commercial Claims Supervisors and their teams to support employee growth, performance improvement, and operational success.
- Establish a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professional development, and customer-focused service.
- Provide strategic leadership for commercial claims operations, including workflow development, process enhancements, and implementation of best practices.
- Develop and support training initiatives related to complex claims, emerging industry trends, and policy coverage matters.
- Offer guidance on complex coverage determinations and claim resolution strategies.
- Oversee the management of claims and litigation across multiple jurisdictions.
- Conduct file reviews and performance evaluations to identify coaching opportunities and ensure quality claim handling practices.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to supervisors and claims staff while addressing performance and development needs.
- Collaborate with external vendors, consultants, legal partners, and specialized experts as needed.
- Review loss data and participate in claim review meetings with agents, brokers, and insured clients.
- Partner with senior leadership to identify claim trends, operational challenges, and strategic improvement opportunities.
- Prepare and present departmental results and performance metrics during leadership meetings.
- Facilitate regular team meetings, supervisor meetings, and operational discussions to promote engagement and consistency.
- Monitor workload capacity, claim volume, and emerging trends to ensure appropriate staffing and resource allocation.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and talent development activities.
- Investigate and respond to regulatory complaints and inquiries related to commercial claims operations.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and applicable claim handling standards.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial claims leadership or supervisory experience.
- Several years of commercial claims experience within an insurance carrier environment.
- Strong knowledge of commercial liability insurance policies, claim handling practices, and coverage analysis.
- Experience managing complex claims and litigation matters.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with claims management systems and related technology platforms.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading large commercial claims teams across multiple jurisdictions.
- Background developing operational workflows, training programs, and process improvement initiatives.
- Experience presenting claim results, trends, and performance metrics to senior leadership.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting commercial claims operations.
- Industry certifications or advanced training related to claims management, insurance, or leadership.
Pay
$121,000 - $141,000 Annually
