About the Role

The Commercial Credit Underwriter II is a critical member of the Centralized Commercial Credit Management – Government (C3G) team, responsible for providing underwriting and credit analysis for new and existing municipal customer relationships, including new & existing borrowing customers and ACH-only relationships. This role ensures compliance with the bank's credit policy, underwriting guidelines, and Federal Banking Regulations and reporting requirements. The C3G team was created to streamline the underwriting process for municipal borrowers with total group credit exposure ≤ $5MM.

The Commercial Credit Underwriter II analyzes, underwrites, and may act as the final decision authority on commercial loan applications while following sound lending practices, policies, and procedures. This role ensures compliance with established underwriting guidelines, quality and production standards, as well as Federal Banking Regulations and Government Reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Possess loan decision authority up to position authority limits as defined in credit policy.
  • Possess exception and high-risk authority.
  • Act as a mentor and participate in the ongoing development of the Underwriting Staff.
  • Conduct credit investigations and analyze financial information pertaining to relationships with Commercial Credit exposure up to highest authority limits.
  • Underwrite loans and perform historical business financial analysis and cash flows, including communicating with the borrower's accountant (as needed) to gain a better understanding of the company's accounting practices.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of a guarantor's financial position through a thorough investigation of personal financial statements, understanding any contingent liabilities, constructing a global cash flow analysis, and reviewing personal tax returns and credit reporting documentation/loan scoring output data.
  • Investigate available sources of credit and financial information.
  • Research economic and market conditions relating to the company, industry, and market area.
  • Note any deviations from the loan policy, procedures, and guidelines, and identify/mitigate key credit risks, deciding on appropriate structures to reduce credit risk.
  • Identify credit applications that require credit enhancements and decide on respective applications accordingly.
  • Render final credit decisions within individual lending authority limits, based on strengths and risks, collateral analysis, historical financials, business and personal cash flow & balance sheet analysis, ratio & trend analysis, review of credit bureau and business bureau reports/loan scoring output data, management profiles, business/product cycles, industry information, projected operating performance, application data, and the ability to repay the proposed debt.
  • Consider and discuss alternative structures and overall assessments with market, sales personnel, and customers when applicable.
  • Set conditions of lending and coordinate with shared services functions as needed to expedite loan closings.
  • Meet turnaround requirements of a high-volume loan production environment while maintaining strong quality of work produced.
  • Maintain a satisfactory level of portfolio delinquencies and charge-offs.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with TD Bank Credit Policy, Federal Banking Regulation, and Government Reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of relevant commercial lending experience.
  • Prior lending authority preferred.
  • Proven analytical and research skills.
  • Strong understanding of credit underwriting and industry practices.
  • Previous experience with business and personal financial statement analysis.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to blend technical knowledge with good business judgment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven organizational, multi-tasking, analytical, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team orientation.
  • Ability to work with various levels of business partners.
  • Developed PC skills including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Computer literacy with a variety of software programs.
  • Small Business Administration/Agency experience preferred.

Pay

$34.75 - $52.00 USD per hour.
