Job Duties

  • Compiles medical records (e.g. Charts inmate appointments, assign medical record numbers to new OSU Hospital inmates for billing purposes, assist RN’s in organizing oncology patient medical charts, Input patient/inmate medical information on computer, assemble daily admission, Input scheduled surgeries into computer & notify institutions of surgeries., Etc).
  • Type all scheduling forms for all CMC clinic specialty appointments & assist in scheduling special testing at OSU
  • Type supplies orders
  • Assemble & distribute daily admissions, round trips & bed roster papers
  • Assemble round trip envelopes for next day appointments at OSU hospital
  • Compiles clinic list daily for RN’s & compile monthly backlog statistic for CMC & OSU appointments
  • File medical records & reports; answer questions on scheduling inmates; distribute daily rosters, discharges & scheduled consults; notify institutions of next day discharges; fax request information to various institutions as needed; daily backup of computer records; open, sort & distribute mail; answer telephone & take messages.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of medical records technology; JCAH and Medicare/Medicaid regulation governing medical record keeping*
  • Requirements governing confidentiality of patient information*
  • Medical terminology
  • Knowledge of health information technology; JCAH & Medicare/Medicaid regulations governing medical record keeping*

  • Skill in use of electronic typewriter and/or IBM compatible PC with windows software, and calculator
  • Skill in use of typewriter &/or word processor & calculator

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in records management
  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in medical terminology
  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in typing

Supplemental Information

  • The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to an appointment to test for illegal drug use.
  • The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result.
  • An applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year.
