The Spring Valley Gold Project is located in the prolific Humboldt Range, an area with approximately 60 million ounces of gold endowment within a 50-mile radius. Envisioned as a long-life, low-cost open-pit, heap-leach operation, Spring Valley has a robust resource base and considerable exploration upside along a 7-mile strike length across the Black Ridge fault zone. With a leadership team experienced in engineering, permitting, and large-scale project execution, Solidus Resources is advancing Spring Valley through feasibility, permitting, and construction, with a clear path toward operational readiness. This position is located on-site at our mine in Lovelock, NV.
About the Role
Also known as the Command Operator, the Command Controller manages the safe and successful operation of CAT MineStar Command for Hauling and the autonomous haulage (AHS) fleet, working with the mine operations team to achieve the production goals of the shift. Reporting to the Control Room Supervisor, the Controller oversees the execution and optimization of the plan, using the information available to direct the operation and ensure the fleet delivers the plan as effectively and efficiently as possible. Working from the on-site control room, the Controller directs the fleet in real time.
Responsibilities
- Execute the plan in real time and manage truck assignments to achieve the production goals of the shift.
- Monitor and adjust assignments, queues and blend targets to keep the fleet in cycle.
- Authorize AOZ entries and ensure the L.O.A.D.S. procedure is followed.
- Conduct hourly intervention checks and escalate system issues.
- Manage reassignments, delay codes and production adjustments through the shift.
- Make timely decisions to stop autonomous trucks or change their operating mode based on alarm levels, technical criteria and active OEM codes, to prevent failures that could impact fleet availability and safety.
- Monitor critical signals from the autonomous trucks and report system failures to the Maintenance Controller and maintenance team.
- Assign trucks using efficient production practices such as decision support, trip progress and the status page.
- Follow escalation protocols and procedures for emergencies and deviations to the plan.
- Log root causes and maintain shift-handover accuracy in line with the Time Use model.
Requirements
- Set the workplace health and safety culture within control operations.
- Comply with and adhere to all company policies, regulations and procedures.
- Report autonomy-related incidents as soon as practicable.
- Participate in safety enquiries, safety meetings, workplace inspections and site safety programs as required.
- Never override a position or safety fault to keep a cycle running; restart only per the authorization matrix.
Qualifications
Essential
- High school diploma or equivalent; a diploma or degree in mine engineering, robotics or autonomous systems is an asset.
- 3 or more years in an open-pit mining or autonomous operations environment.
- Certified competent, or able to be certified, on CAT MineStar Command for Hauling, assessed against the competency matrix (course, simulation and supervised practical).
- Experience with fleet-management systems such as CAT MineStar, Modular or similar.
- Strong organizational and priority-setting skills; able to make complex decisions and work under pressure.
Preferred
- Previous exposure to autonomous mining systems (highly desirable).
- Advanced computer literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of open-pit mining fundamentals and autonomous mining operations.
Schedule
This role operates on a shift-based schedule, requiring coordination during both day and night shifts.
