About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Systems Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team supporting the design and delivery of large-scale, complex infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a telecommunications professional with expertise in structured cabling, outside plant (OSP), telecommunications infrastructure, BIM coordination, and telecommunications system design. In this role, you will lead telecommunications design efforts for multi-building projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and work directly with stakeholders to deliver innovative, high-quality telecommunications solutions. The ideal candidate is a technical leader with strong design experience, excellent communication skills, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead telecommunications system design for large, multi-phase commercial or industrial projects.
- Design and coordinate structured cabling systems, backbone distribution, communication rooms, rack layouts, cable schedules, and wireless infrastructure.
- Develop telecommunications infrastructure designs including Outside Plant (OSP) and inter/intra-building distribution systems.
- Produce coordinated engineering deliverables using AutoCAD, Revit, SmartPlant, Navisworks, and Bluebeam.
- Ensure designs comply with TIA standards, BICSI best practices, NFPA 70 (NEC), and other applicable industry standards.
- Coordinate closely with architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout project execution.
- Review, edit, and maintain telecommunications design specifications and construction documentation.
- Support project planning by estimating engineering effort, scheduling design activities, and coordinating multiple design packages.
- Participate in system startup, testing, commissioning, and construction support activities.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of telecommunications designs to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Interface with project stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver reliable telecommunications solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree or four-year non-technical degree.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in telecommunications design and construction.
- Strong experience designing structured cabling systems.
- Knowledge of TIA telecommunications standards.
- Knowledge of BICSI design practices.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code).
- Experience leading telecommunications design teams.
- Experience editing engineering specifications and construction documents.
- Experience with startup and commissioning of telecommunications systems.
- Experience estimating and scheduling telecommunications design activities for large, complex projects.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam.
- Proficiency with Navisworks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification.
- BICSI Outside Plant (OSP) certification.
- BICSI Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM) certification.
- Project management experience.
- Working knowledge of Revit and Building Information Modeling (BIM).
- Experience supporting semiconductor, manufacturing, or advanced technology facilities.
- Experience designing Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Emergency Responder Radio Coverage Systems (ERRCS).
- Experience performing quality assurance reviews of telecommunications engineering designs.
