About the role

Conducts day-to-day operations and maintenance of the plant, including plant operations, mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, or instruments and controls. Monitors plant performance and identifies mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation/controls issues, performing corrective action without supervision. Fully proficient in at least one discipline (operations, mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation/controls) and capable of leading acceptance and performance tests on plant equipment. Provides guidance to less experienced operations personnel.

Responsibilities

• Start-up, operate, shutdown, and secure equipment under normal and emergency conditions, from the control room or in the field.
• Troubleshoot and perform artisan-level mechanical skills such as pump, motor, and coupling alignment.
• Inspect all facility machinery thoroughly for malfunctions and/or potential failures.
• Maintain all logs and records to document complete operating conditions for the facility and report irregularities.
• Identify hazardous and/or unsafe conditions or work practices, notify supervisor, and take corrective action as required.
• Control, monitor, and evaluate plant production equipment and output, including efficiency and related variables (e.g., heat rate, cost/unit of production, system demands, and capabilities).
• Act as the Operations point of contact for coordinating the facility’s short- and long-term maintenance/project planning and scheduling.
• Review daily Operations work orders and establish priorities based on safety, operational, and commercial impact.
• Serve as the intermediary between support groups and the Operations department for maintenance plans, schedules, and routine CMMS backlog reviews.
• Collaborate with Plant Operations, Projects, and OEM to align on major operations/maintenance plans, schedules, and budgets.
• Work with the Management Team to develop 5- and 10-year major maintenance and outage site plans, planning these in CMMS and tying all PMs to planned outages for budgeting.
• Ensure all pre-outage work is clearly scheduled and included in the outage planning milestones tracking tool; schedule milestone update meetings with the management team.
• Assist the maintenance manager with developing and integrating the optimized plant-wide and resource-loaded outage schedule.
• Monitor readings from controls (temperature, pressure, flow, etc.) for long-term variances from normal trends and respond to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective power generation while maintaining environmental standards.
• Perform routine maintenance (e.g., fuel system maintenance, valve packing replacement, pump repairs, electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration) and complex maintenance (e.g., equipment alignment, continuous emissions monitoring systems, distributed control systems, turbine overhauls).
• Develop operating and maintenance procedures to ensure consistent and safe operation.
• Conduct or assist in scheduled and forced outage maintenance work.
• Supervise, coordinate, or assist contractors performing work at the facility.
• Comply with all Facility Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and programs.
• Maintain logs and/or records of problems, repairs, and downtime as required.
• Participate in committees and task forces for plant operations and improvements.
• Assist in the implementation and upkeep of the overall preventative maintenance and spare parts inventory tracking system.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent level of work experience.
• At least three years of related work experience.
• Successful completion of applicable pre-employment test battery, drug testing, and formal background checks.
• Must be able to perform the physical demands of the assigned position.
• Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Solid level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
• Leadership experience a plus.

Work Environment

• Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, and other gear must be worn for some duties.
• Working with hazardous materials may be required.
• Requires working 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on schedules, workload, and plant conditions.
• On-call status (day and night) may be required.
• Includes working indoors and outdoors, in elevated areas, confined spaces, and in extreme heat and cold conditions.

Physical Abilities

• Must be able to work on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing.
• Routinely lift 50 pounds.
