About the role

This is a rotating shift position responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility. The Operations & Maintenance Technician operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, and instrumentation, including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, diesel generators, and other auxiliary equipment. Strict adherence to all safety and environmental rules is required to protect employees and public safety.

Supervisory Relations

This position works under the direction of the O&M Manager and Lead Operations & Maintenance Technicians (LOMTs).

Responsibilities

• Supports the LOMT in the proper operation of the combined cycle generating facility with minimal guidance or assistance.
• Competently operates and maintains all plant equipment, including local operation via PLC panel interfaces.
• Communicates plant issues and keeps LOMT fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions, and faulty equipment.
• Supports the use of a computerized maintenance management system (Maximo), entering data consistently and documenting maintenance actions on work order forms.
• Handles corrective and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high-quality manner, documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.
• Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels.
• Visually inspects and listens to equipment to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
• Provides detailed status of plant conditions to fellow OMTs at shift turnover.
• Performs water chemistry analysis on HRSG, auxiliary boiler, and cooling tower systems, ensuring chemistry is within proper control ranges and making adjustments as needed.
• Works with plant chemist, OMTs, and water treatment vendor to monitor the overall chemistry program.
• Operates demineralized water system in accordance with OEM and plant procedures, ensuring water quality is within acceptable limits.
• Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to operate, maintain, and repair facility equipment.
• Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, and performing cleaning, lubrication, and other maintenance tasks.
• Opens and closes valves and circuit breakers for proper system operation and isolation.
• Performs capital project and major program responsibilities as assigned by Plant Management.
• Sets up and operates tools and instruments to repair parts and equipment, including welding and cutting equipment for metal fabrication.
• Diagnoses mechanical malfunctions, repairs or replaces defective parts, and performs lubrication and cleaning.
• Uses test equipment (e.g., Fluke meter) to calibrate and repair plant instrumentation and electrical circuits.
• Assists in troubleshooting and inspecting programmable logic controllers, plant control systems, and distributive control systems, including control card replacement and wiring terminations.
• Assists in repairing plant instrumentation and equipment.
• Identifies and resolves CEMS problems, including performing calibrations and gas bottle change-outs.
• Reads, understands, and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs, including plant environmental permits.
• Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, and P&IDs.
• Works shift hours, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable facility operation, with working hours occasionally determined on short notice.
• Performs general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the facility, including painting projects and maintaining cleanliness in all plant areas and the control room.

Requirements

• Mechanical, instrumentation, and electrical equipment knowledge.
• Knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
• Ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, and lifting up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred; or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and education.
