Combo Pipe Welder

About the Role

Perform welding functions per jobsite specifications, covering various welding procedures, brazing, and cutting on all types of pipe in an industrial construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Actively support the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”

• Collaborate with peers, supervision, and the QA/QC Department.
• Select equipment and plan layout and assembly of welding.
• Weld pipe of all kinds, sizes, and alloys using processes such as ARC, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, GAS, MIG, TIG, etc.
• Weld high and low-pressure pipe per specifications, with welds subject to NDE testing including visual, hydro, and 100% x-ray.
• Fit up pipe and perform grinding when required.
• Weld on structural steel, handrails, brackets, and non-piping components.
• Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
• Maintain current certification in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW or FCAW.
• Identify safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate or minimize risks.
• Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervision.

Requirements

• Minimum of five (5) years or more in refinery maintenance, turnaround, or construction experience.
• General knowledge of basic hand tools.
• Ability to pass a Weld Test and demonstrate practical welding skills.
• Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training, and Client/Site-specific training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain active status within the required drug testing program.
• Must pass a background check.
• Must have a current TWIC card.

Physical Requirements

• Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
• Communicate by talking and hearing.
• Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
• Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms using appropriate fall protection.
• Work in weather conditions, including heat, while wearing appropriate PPE.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
