Combination Pipe Welder

About the role

Combination Pipe Welder position located at Mayport Naval Base, Jacksonville, Florida. Work is performed on an active military construction site under Davis‑Bacon prevailing wage rates. The role supports RQ Construction’s mechanical team on fast‑track Department of Defense projects.

Responsibilities

• Use hand‑welding, flame cutting, hand soldering, or brazing equipment to weld or join metal components.
• Pass groove‑weld qualification tests in all positions for multiple materials and processes using SMAW and GTAW as required.
• Perform work on an active construction site in accordance with relevant codes and apply mechanical welding principles.
• Implement required safety practices and use appropriate equipment in support of RQ’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• Completion of a Union, private (in‑house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on‑the‑job training.
• 5 to 8 years (or equivalent) of field or trade work experience as a Combination Welder in a commercial, facilities, government, military, or large commercial construction setting.
• Ability to pass 6G GTAW and SMAW qualification tests before hire.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and OSHA 30‑hour certifications (training available if needed).
• Ability to pass a drug screening, commercial criminal background check, and a stricter Department of Defense background check for base access.
• Provide proof of identity and U.S. work authorization at time of hire.
