About the Role
The Columbarium and Groundskeeper is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the columbarium, assisting in placing cremains and plaques, and maintaining the grounds of the Rectory, church, and Marian Chapel. This role also involves upkeep of sidewalks, gardens, fountains, irrigation systems, and general maintenance of the church property.
Responsibilities
- Columbarium Duties:
- Unlock the columbarium gates Monday through Friday.
- Perform maintenance and cleaning tasks, including cleaning each exposed niche monthly, washing floor tile weekly, and blowing leaves daily.
- Assist in placing cremains and plaques on all four columbaria.
- Pressure wash the overhead covered columbarium walkways monthly.
- Lubricate locks and hinges monthly.
- Maintain gardens near and surrounding all four columbaria.
- Groundskeeping Duties:
- Weed flower beds and trim shrubbery around all five church buildings.
- Gather branches and trim bushes and trees on church property.
- Spray weed killer in gardens, along sidewalks, and in parking lot areas.
- Daily clean debris from building entrances, including using a blower to clean sidewalks.
- Maintenance Duties:
- Unlock and open the church and Marian Chapel gates Monday through Friday.
- Weekly wash the floor of the Marian Chapel.
- Monthly lubricate locks and hinges of the Marian Chapel.
- Monthly remove leaves and add pool chlorine to the Courtyard fountain.
- Quarterly wash exterior windows and glass doors on all five church buildings.
- Maintain the appearance of all building entrances, porticos, and sidewalks by sweeping, blowing, and pressure washing.
- Maintain Church and Rectory lawn irrigation systems, including monthly checks on the pond pump and sprinkler heads.
- Maintain cleanliness of gutters on all five church buildings.
- Maintain and paint parking lot ramps, curbs, and parking spot stops as necessary.
- Perform minor mechanical work and adjustments on equipment (e.g., golf cart, blowers).
- Perform minor maintenance and exterior repair of facilities, including the Rectory.
- Cross-train with other maintenance staff to provide assistance and coverage of duties.
- Communicate effectively with the Business Administrator and Director of Community Outreach for project approvals and holiday work schedules.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Six months or more of related experience.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with ability to drive a truck.
- Adhere to all Diocesan health and safety policies.
- Receive adequate training to operate equipment safely.
- Maintain a respectful and quiet atmosphere in the church during liturgical celebrations.
Skills
- Communication and Computer Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leadership, vendors, employees, and the public.
- Average computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
- Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Physical stamina to handle a full shift of active work.
