Colorado Staff Accountant - Payroll Focused

Key Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees across multiple projects and locations
  • Review and verify timecards for accuracy and completeness
  • Calculate wages, deductions, and adjustments including benefits and garnishments
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Prepare, review, and file all payroll tax filings
  • Prepare and file sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
  • Support audits and ensure accurate accruals and reporting
  • Maintain business and contractor licensing across municipalities and states
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and supporting schedules
  • Aid in month-end close activities including payroll and benefits accruals
  • Support accounts payable entry and general accounting tasks as needed
  • Respond to employee and project team payroll inquiries
  • Partner with HR to validate benefit deductions and employee data
  • Cross-train in key accounting functions to support team continuity
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field)
  • 3+ years of payroll experience including multi-state payroll processing
  • Strong understanding of payroll taxes and compliance requirements
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles
  • Congstruction or project-based accounting experience preferred

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE, HH2, or similar systems preferred
