Colorado Staff Accountant - Payroll Focused

Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for salaried and hourly employees across multiple projects and locations
- Review and verify timecards for accuracy and completeness
- Calculate wages, deductions, and adjustments including benefits and garnishments
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
- Prepare, review, and file all payroll tax filings
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
- Support audits and ensure accurate accruals and reporting
- Maintain business and contractor licensing across municipalities and states
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and supporting schedules
- Aid in month-end close activities including payroll and benefits accruals
- Support accounts payable entry and general accounting tasks as needed
- Respond to employee and project team payroll inquiries
- Partner with HR to validate benefit deductions and employee data
- Cross-train in key accounting functions to support team continuity
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field)
- 3+ years of payroll experience including multi-state payroll processing
- Strong understanding of payroll taxes and compliance requirements
- Working knowledge of general accounting principles
- Congstruction or project-based accounting experience preferred
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Sage 300 CRE, HH2, or similar systems preferred
