Collegiate Aide-Nursing ACU PD
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Collegiate Aide Nursing PD performs a variety of patient care functions to provide assistance in carrying out patient care assignments. All essential functions performed reflect the age-specific needs of the patients. Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse within the scope of Hospital and department policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates competency, individually and as part of the multidisciplinary team, in assisting the professional nurse to perform clinical care and assessment of all patient populations.
- Complies with patient safety issues as defined by the JCAHO patient safety goals:
- Accurate patient ID
- Effective communication between caregivers
- Accurate use of infusion pumps
- Accurate use of clinical alarm systems
- Accurate identification of correct surgical site
- Compliance with CDC hand washing technique
- Performs and documents a comprehensive assessment of patient needs using unit-specific assessment forms:
- Physical findings
- Psychological data
- Developmental tasks (as indicated)
- Educational needs
- Significant person/family support
- Cognitive abilities
- Major stressors
- Provides on-going patient/family education. Gives information as applicable on:
- Anticipated Plan of Care
- Test preparation
- Medical treatment information
- Community resources (if applicable)
- Infant care (if applicable)
- Self-care (if applicable)
- Assists patients with activities of daily living.
- Assists registered nurse with all aspects of the nursing process, including but not limited to:
- Assisting with collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data following the nursing management plan
- Monitoring the patient response to nursing interventions
- Provides and/or reinforces patient instruction.
- Performs designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department Policy and Procedures.
- Functions as a patient sitter for safety watch cases.
- Assists in the overall function of the nursing unit under direction of the registered nurse.
- Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Protects and preserves patient rights to confidentiality:
- Discusses patient and/or family issues only when related to plan of care
- Treats records, personal items, correspondence with utmost security
- Performs other job-related duties as required or requested.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Must be actively enrolled in one of the following programs and have completed two (2) clinical courses, including a Fundamentals of Nursing course:
- Bachelor of Science program in nursing
- Associate degree program in nursing
- Accredited licensed practical nursing program
- Registered nurse course of study in a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc., or a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program
- Current certification in Basic Life Support with Healthcare Provider required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the hospital with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
