College Work Study Program (Child Care Aide)

About the Role
The work-study child care aide will assist in implementing the childcare program's goals and classroom objectives while performing related work for children six weeks to five years old.
Responsibilities
- Assist in directing activities for children in the program
- Assist with supervision of large and small groups of children
- Assist children with self-help skills
- Work with individual children on specific tasks
- Complete all related trainings
- Attend seminars and parent-related activities
- Assist with serving meals and snacks
- May perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be a registered student of Southwest Tennessee Community College
- Only students who are approved for Federal Work Study are qualified for this position
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Pass background check
- Obtain a physical prior to employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Early Childhood Certificate, or 18 credit hours of Early Childhood Courses
- Knowledge of recreational activities associated with creative play
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of psychological and biological needs of children
- Ability to make decisions both within or without guidance or established procedures
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in stressful situations
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, children, and other employees
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
- Ability to lift children up to 40 pounds if needed
