College Work Study Program (Child Care Aide)

About the Role

The work-study child care aide will assist in implementing the childcare program's goals and classroom objectives while performing related work for children six weeks to five years old.

Responsibilities

• Assist in directing activities for children in the program
• Assist with supervision of large and small groups of children
• Assist children with self-help skills
• Work with individual children on specific tasks
• Complete all related trainings
• Attend seminars and parent-related activities
• Assist with serving meals and snacks
• May perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must be a registered student of Southwest Tennessee Community College
• Only students who are approved for Federal Work Study are qualified for this position
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Pass background check
• Obtain a physical prior to employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Early Childhood Certificate, or 18 credit hours of Early Childhood Courses
• Knowledge of recreational activities associated with creative play

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of psychological and biological needs of children
• Ability to make decisions both within or without guidance or established procedures
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in stressful situations
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, children, and other employees

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

• Ability to lift children up to 40 pounds if needed
