College Internship
About the role
CAIR-SFBA offers internships in various departments including Civic Engagement, Communications, Event Planning/Outreach, Operations, and Youth Development. Interns will gain hands-on experience and develop professional skills.
Responsibilities
- Civic Engagement: Organize meetings with local elected officials, assist with voter registration campaigns, and act as a liaison between CAIR and public officials.
- Communications: Inform the media about Islamic activities, write editorials, and assist in issuing the CAIR-California newsletter. Learn to engage the community through social media.
- Event Planning/Outreach: Organize events, propose and create new material, prepare exhibits, and help with inquiries from members and guests. Act as a liaison between CAIR and local communities.
- Operations: Assist with daily office tasks, coordinate staff meetings, trainings, and activities, greet guests, organize office projects, and assist with donor and community outreach.
- Youth Development: Implement CAIR's youth programming, engage students in leadership development, and develop curriculum and program content.
Qualifications
- Candidates must be college students or recent graduates pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office platforms.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- A passion for CAIR's mission and work with the Muslim community.
Skills
The ideal candidate should have an interest in political science, media and communications, marketing, public relations, graphic design, and youth development.
Benefits
While CAIR-SFBA does not compensate interns, we encourage candidates to apply for funding through scholarships and fellowships.
Pay
Internships are unpaid.
Schedule
Internship terms vary from Spring, Summer, to Fall. Hours for an academic term internship are 15 hours per week for a Fall or Spring internship and 20 hours for a Summer internship. Interns must work in-office a minimum of two days per week with Friday being a mandatory on-site day.
