At CAIR-SFBA, we believe that the best way to secure a better future for all of us is to empower young Americans with the skills they need to make a difference. Interns will work with leaders on substantive projects that lay the foundation for a more just and inclusive America.

Responsibilities

  • Civic Engagement: Organize meetings with local elected officials, assist with voter registration campaigns, and act as a liaison between CAIR and public officials.
  • Communications: Inform the media about Islamic activities and practices, monitor the local media, write editorials, and assist in issuing the CAIR-California newsletter.
  • Event Planning/Outreach: Organize events sponsored by CAIR, propose and create new material to promote CAIR, prepare an exhibit, and help with inquiries from members and guests.
  • Operations: Assist with daily operations, such as coordination of staff meetings, trainings, and activities; greet guests and interact with patrons; and assist with office organization projects.
  • Youth Development: Implement CAIR's youth programming, engage high school and college students around issues of identity, leadership development, civil rights, civic engagement, and social justice.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be college students pursuing a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree, or recent graduates (17 and older).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Passion and familiarity with the work that CAIR does.

Benefits

  • While CAIR-SFBA does not compensate interns, we encourage candidates to apply for funding through scholarships and/or fellowships.

Pay

Internships typically last from 10-12 weeks, depending on the student's academic calendar. Hours for an academic term internship are 15 hours per week for a Fall or Spring internship and 20 hours for a Summer internship.

Schedule

CAIR-SFBA currently operates a hybrid schedule for staff and requires interns to work in-office a minimum of two days per week with Friday being a mandatory on-site day.
