College and Career Access Coordinator

Position Summary: The College & Career Access Coordinator plays a critical role in the cradle-through-college and careers mission of Children’s Aid Community Schools by ensuring high-quality, data-driven college and career readiness programs are available to and utilized by high school age program participants to reduce the barriers to a successful transition to life post high school. The College & Career Access Coordinator reports directly to the Community School Director and works collaboratively with the Beacon Program Director, Youth Advocates, and other site-based staff. The role involves close collaboration with Frederick Douglass Academy III (FDA III) Leadership and instructional staff to support students effectively.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum & Instructional Design
  • Develop annual scope and sequence for high school college & career readiness classes based on available data, best practices, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Coordinate all on-site college and career exposure activities, off-site college and career visits, and workshops for students and families, including scheduling, securing space, arranging transportation, and food.
  • Collaborate with Youth Advocates, tutors, and school staff to assess and identify learning needs of students and develop academic plans for individualized and group academic support.
  • Teach college and career readiness classes and/or provide 1:1 college and career coaching, as necessary.
  • Utilize internal monitoring systems to track participant progress toward program outcomes; review, analyze, and use credit accumulation, Regents scores, and “on-track” for graduation data to inform and improve programs.
  • Collaborate with Beacon Director and Youth Advocates to provide high-quality after-school activities through the Beacon Program for FDA III students, focusing on freshman and sophomore classes.
  • Support the development and implementation of school-year and summer employment programming (WLG, More Life, SYEP) in collaboration with the Community School Director, Beacon Director, and FDA III Parent Coordinator.
  • Develop and administer student surveys to identify interests and activities students would like to experience at FDA III.
  • Attend Attendance Team meetings to review and analyze weekly attendance data, identify trends, and determine needs of students, particularly those chronically absent or severely chronically absent.
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of a referral system for students to receive services and supports offered in the school community and through external partners.
  • Work collaboratively with the Community School Director and Youth Advocates to develop attendance improvement campaigns, including incentives and award celebrations.
• Family Engagement
  • Develop and deliver college and career exposure workshops for families.
  • Provide information to families about services and supports available on campus through formal and informal communication.
  • Work in partnership with the Parent Coordinator and Parent Teacher Association to improve parent involvement in FDA III.
• Professional Development
  • Attend regular staff meetings, school team meetings, and content meetings, as required.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Capacity Building to plan, coordinate, and implement professional development opportunities that build knowledge and skills around core competencies of effective youth work professionals and college and career readiness.
  • Maintain certification requirements and proof of attendance in professional activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned, at the discretion of the Community School Director and/or Children’s Aid.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required; Master’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• New York State Teaching Certificate a plus.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in college and career counseling, college access and success, or college admissions, with knowledge of the U.S. higher educational system, especially New York City and New York State; 2 to 3 years in a supervisory role preferred.
• Experience working with traditionally underserved student populations, including English Language Learners, students with IEPs, students involved in the child welfare system, students living in poverty, and students who are homeless or marginally housed preferred.
• Committed to the mission of Children’s Aid and Positive Youth Development.
• Proven track record of using data to inform and improve practice linked to positive program outcomes.
• Outstanding presentation and group facilitation skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills and the ability to establish harmonious relationships with team members.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills a plus.

Pay

$27.47 - $30.22 per hour.
