College Access for Working Adults Program Specialist (Non-Teaching Adjunct)
About the Role
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers academic degree and certificate programs for working adults and traditional-aged students. The Joseph S. Murphy Institute, within SLU, focuses on expanding educational opportunities for union members and adult learners through Worker Education and Workforce Development (WEWD). This part-time Program Specialist role supports the College Access for Working Adults Program (CUNY Days) by assisting with recruitment, outreach, advisement, and administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Provide prospective students with information about CUNY colleges, program requirements, and enrollment standards via in-person, telephone, and Zoom appointments.
- Use career exploration platforms (e.g., O*Net, Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook) to assist participants with identifying education requirements, work conditions, wages, and job outlooks for careers of interest.
- Counsel college prep students on undergraduate or graduate study options, including college/program selection and application assistance.
- Conduct and document ongoing follow-ups with prospective students.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement recruitment activities, enrollment events, and orientation sessions.
- Assist with marketing and promotional efforts, including social media.
- Conduct workshops and presentations on campus, virtually, and at offsite recruitment events.
- Act as a liaison between prospective students and staff at SLU and other CUNY colleges.
- Collect and maintain program participants' enrollment data for reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
Qualifications
- At least four years of admission or academic counseling and/or career advisement experience (highly desirable).
- Knowledge of CUNY admissions, recruitment, and enrollment practices and technologies (preferred).
- Experience working with adult learners.
- Familiarity with career exploration platforms (e.g., O*Net, Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook).
- Experience planning recruitment and outreach events.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to lead presentations and small-group discussions.
- Competency with computer applications (e.g., intermediate-level Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, MS Access, student information systems).
- Competency with online communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, TEAMS, Google Voice).
- Detail-oriented, self-starter, and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Availability to work late afternoon/evening hours and occasional weekday/weekend events.
- Required travel throughout NYC’s five boroughs for information sessions on weekdays or weekends.
Pay
Hourly rate between $51.94 - $56.21, commensurate with education and experience.
