About the role
The LAN Administrator in HSPHD is responsible for maintaining the department's LANs, providing backup/restore for data files, coordinating file sharing, documenting systems, ensuring virus protection, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and administering the File and Print servers.
Responsibilities
- Cook up department LAN utilization
- Configure and install LAN servers
- Assist Division support ITS in installing LAN PC’s
- Provide backup/restore for department data files
- Coordinate LAN administration for Active Directory
- Document department LAN systems
- Cook up systems access and assure virus protection for all department computers
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve connectivity issues
- Administer, design, and support HSPHD systems; operate day-to-day operation of the File and Print servers
- Apply application releases, maintain applications security, maintain both internally developed and vendor supplied software executable(s)
- Organize, monitor, and implement information system projects
Requirements
- One of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems (MIS) or related field plus two years of professional information technology experience
- A two year degree or approved certification in an IT program plus four years of professional level IT experience
- An approved equivalent combination of education and experience to equal six years
- Ability to work with a wide range of computer hardware, software, and peripherals
- High level of knowledge of LAN principles and security
- Ability to consult and communicate effectively with all staff and outside agencies, handle multiple simultaneous projects, and analyze and resolve problems
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience in successfully implementing mission critical networks within established deliverable dates
- Experience in LAN Management and LAN infrastructures including cabling and connectivity, RF technology and user accounts
- Experience with daily administration and support tasks that include firewalls, RAS, VPN, ISDN, DSL, wireless, and Internet
- Knowledge of SCCM/SMS, or other LAN management support tools

- DSL, Firewalls, Internet, ISDN, DSL, Wireless, and Internet
- Providing technical support for Windows Operating Systems to include 2000, XP, 2003 and Active Directory NTFS
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting hardware such as Cisco switches, Ethernet equipment and LAN servers
