Responsibilities

  • Provides training to all personnel in the Collections Department.
  • Supervises all personnel in the Collections Department, ensuring work is completed timely and accurately.
  • Monitors time and attendance of personnel in the Collections Department.
  • Monitors the collection of all loans and debt instruments.
  • Establishes and maintains effective collection procedures.
  • Reviews accounts assigned to Collections Specialists where action beyond routine collection procedures must be approved.
  • Prepares, implements, and supervises the budget for the department that is consistent with the long-range plan of the credit union.
  • Recommends to management loans to be charged off on a monthly basis and provides reports for approval to the Board of Directors.
  • Maintains a current manual of operations for the Collections Department, including operating procedures for all major activities.
  • Annually provides a written performance evaluation for department staff.
  • Maintains current, in-depth knowledge of bankruptcy and litigation of delinquent accounts.
  • Oversees the repossession of collateral on delinquent loans, real estate foreclosures, and other matters requiring legal advice and assistance.
  • Maintains all records of the collection program, including charged off loans, and updates information tracking systems.
  • Stays knowledgeable of all government rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to the operation of all areas under the Collections Department.
  • Attends court hearings as required.
  • Oversees vehicle titles and insurance products offered by the Credit Union.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required.
  • College, business school, or related post-high school training or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • A degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related area from an accredited four-year college or university is desired.
  • Minimum of five years of financial institution experience managing a collection program of comparable or greater scale is preferred.
  • Experience in collection of consumer loans, credit cards, or similar accounts is preferred.
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license is required, as a company car is often used for this position.

Physical, Mental, and Visual Requirements

  • Most essential functions are performed while seated at a desk with extensive telephone work, requiring good verbal communication skills.
  • May require heavy lifting when working with repossessed collateral and foreclosed property.
  • Must be able to move freely between areas and occasionally travel within Middle Tennessee to inspect properties, which may involve negotiating rough terrain and steep areas.
  • Work involves extensive use of a personal computer, requiring excellent visual, audio, and manual dexterity.
  • Position requires the physical and mental stamina to handle multiple functions, meet deadlines, and withstand periods of high stress.
