Position reports directly to the Solid Waste Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe operation of the Collection Site in all aspects.
  • Provide professional, courteous customer service to all citizens of Union County.
  • Verify proof of residency for anyone wishing to use the site to dispose of garbage.
  • Direct and assist citizens to appropriate disposal containers and recycling bins.
  • Visually inspect every load during disposal to ensure it does not exceed the daily allowed amount of 1 cubic yard.
  • Monitor all solid waste and recycling containers to prevent overloading; notify Supervisor if a container needs to be emptied.
  • Operate all on-site equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Complete all necessary forms and submit them to your Supervisor.
  • Answer incoming calls, provide information, and address questions as required.
  • Keep all working and walking areas free of garbage and debris at all times.
  • Maintain a pleasant attitude regardless of the situation.
  • Report any harassment or disagreements to your supervisor immediately and obtain the tag number of the party involved.
  • Follow all rules and guidelines outlined in the Collection Site Information Booklet and County Policy Manual.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as driver’s licenses, tax deeds, and car registrations to determine residency.
  • Ability to read, write, and make decisions with no supervision.
  • Ability to follow rules and regulations, including turning people away as necessary.
  • Ability to assist residents with the disposal of their trash.
  • Ability to maintain a professional manner at all times.
  • Some knowledge of recycling is required.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees and citizens of Union County.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • A combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and DOC background check.
  • Must have a working phone and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to drive.

Schedule

  • Monday, Tuesday, Friday or Wednesday through Friday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Saturday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Sunday: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
  • On-call during these hours; may be required to work additional hours or days, especially during or after disasters or emergencies.

Work Conditions and Physical Environment

  • Work requires occasional physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
  • Exposure to extreme heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, noise, strong unpleasant odors, dust, pollen, and possible toxic conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. and move 10 to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Constant standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing up and down.

Interpersonal Communication

  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions or directions from Supervisors.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, including performing under stress when confronted with persons acting under stress (e.g., general public).
