PennEngineering is seeking a motivated individual to join our Manufacturing Team as a Cold Header / Thread Roller/Trainee. You’ll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things and participate in an operator training program. Join us as we build the future in Manufacturing and Engineering!

Responsibilities

  • With direction and assistance from the trainer, mentor, or set-up person, set up and operate cold heading and thread rolling machines.
  • Work from detailed Engineering drawings, process control documents, training manuals, current best practices, and work instructions to produce quality parts.
  • Use precision measuring devices including—but not limited to—micrometers, dial calipers, optical comparators, tri-roll gauges, and various other gauges.
  • Use shop support equipment as needed to prepare dies for use in cold heading and thread rolling machines.
  • With assistance, troubleshoot machine malfunctions, replace worn and broken tooling, and make all machine adjustments necessary to produce parts within specified tolerances.
  • Obtain correct Job Packet(s) from the Cold Heading Tool Crib area, which include routers, part drawings, specifications, and SPC trend charts.
  • Access the correct bill of materials from a computer located on the shop floor and obtain the correct machine tooling as called for on the bill of materials.
  • Install and remove tooling from machines using wrenches and other types of hand tools.
  • Remove old wire stock from the header, as needed, and draw new coiled wire using an in-line wire drawer.
  • Detect and report faulty machine operation, defective material and equipment, drawing discrepancies, and other unusual conditions to the set-up person or team leader.
  • Maintain proper machine oil levels on a daily basis.
  • Maintain the workplace area in a neat and orderly condition on a daily basis.
  • Complete time, production, and quality reports as necessary.
  • Communicate with operators from other shifts to exchange information pertinent to the current work on a daily basis.
  • Observe all safety regulations in all duties.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Mechanical ability.
  • Experience using micrometers, calipers, comparators, gauges, hand tools, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift approximately 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand approximately 8-10 hrs./day.
  • Able to bend, twist, and squat in various positions for prolonged periods while exerting force (pushing or pulling) on hand tools used to adjust machines.
  • Visual acuity for detailed work.
  • Manual dexterity.
