Coding Specialist 3 - Neurological Surgery.
About the role
This position is Remote. Primary Job Responsibilities include performing chart analysis and abstracting CPT codes, HCPCS codes, ICD codes and modifiers, reviewing and resolving accounts for coding issues, consulting with physicians and/or clinical department representatives, making coding corrections, serving as a resource for coding and documentation guidelines, maintaining Epic WQ turnaround times, and performing special projects.
Responsibilities
- Performs chart analysis and abstracts CPT codes, HCPCS codes, ICD codes and modifiers, as needed, for surgical specialties to ensure appropriate coding, billing, and reimbursement for the medical center.
- Reviews and resolves accounts for coding issues like missing modifiers, incorrect modifiers, missing charges, incorrect charges, medical necessity edits, CCI edits, claim edits, and payor denials in Epic; verifies accuracy of ICD diagnosis codes and CPT/HCPCS codes.
- Consults with physicians and/or clinical department representatives, as appropriate, to verify services rendered and documented. Provides feedback to assist in understanding coding and documentation issues and opportunities.
- Makes coding corrections to resolve coding issues; supports PFS by reviewing specified services for charge accuracy.
- Serves as a resource for current surgical coding, billing and regulatory guidelines; including but not limited to review of denials for mitigation and reduction strategies.
- Maintains Epic WQ turnaround times to prevent charge lags for professional fee services. Identifies potentially avoidable delays to timely billing and helps identify systemic issues that contribute to delays in service or inefficient uses of resources to address root cause and prevent ongoing errors.
- Performs special projects or may perform the work of lower-level classifications of the Coding Specialist series.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC), Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) or Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC), and three years coding experience or equivalent education/experience.

Benefits
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details include a minimum hourly wage of $33.47 and a maximum of $47.93, benefits available through the University of Washington, and a first shift schedule with a union representation (SEIU Local 925).
