About the Role
As a Coding Rep II, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely medical coding for patient records. Responsibilities
- Review and assign accurate medical codes (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS) for inpatient and outpatient encounters based on clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific coding regulations, including CMS and AMA guidelines.
- Identify discrepancies or gaps in documentation and query providers for clarification to support complete and precise coding.
- Audit coded data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency, escalating complex issues to leadership as needed.
- Collaborate with clinical teams, billing departments, and revenue cycle staff to resolve coding-related denials or edits.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards in a high-volume coding environment.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with coding updates, regulatory changes, and best practices.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) and coding software systems to perform daily tasks efficiently.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of professional medical coding experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare setting.
- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent required.
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems; experience with pediatric coding a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Familiarity with EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and encoder software (e.g., 3M, Optum).
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
