Coder/Abstractor, CCA

About the role

The Coder/Abstractor, CCA works with assigned coding mentor to accurately codes, sequences and abstracts inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Accurately code, sequence, and abstract inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department records.
• Follow ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines.
• Work with assigned coding mentor.

Requirements

• One year of inpatient or outpatient coding preferred.
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) required.
• Certified Coding Specialist required to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree in related field preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of Health Information Systems practices, procedures, and guidelines.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.
• Ability to seek out new methods and principles to improve services.
• Ability to utilize verbal and written communication skills effectively.
