Requirements

• Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care)
• Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months
• Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days; no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods
• Applicants must reside in the United States
• Priority consideration for internal applicants and those with previous agricultural or production experience
• Basic computer skills for inputting dissection data via tablet
• Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.)
• Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines

Responsibilities

This position collects data in the feed conversion houses and dissection laboratory by using measuring instruments and electronic devices. Other duties may be assigned.

• Collect Data and Perform House Checklist within Feed Conversion Houses and Brood Feed Conversion Houses (50%):
  • Weigh chickens into and out of their cages
  • Record and add feed to feeders as needed
  • Collect data with pen and paper and/or on a computer or tablet
  • Check bird’s heart rate and blood oxygen with pulse-oximeter following accepted protocols
  • Dispose of dead birds as instructed
  • Feed birds according to schedules
  • Clean and disinfect equipment
  • House set-up
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties
  • Segregate birds according to line and sex as instructed
  • Remove and place birds in cages according to schedules
  • Examine birds for signs of illness and report any problems to lead or manager
  • Monitor controls and thermostats that regulate temperature and humidity of the poultry house
  • Perform simple math as part of recording information such as bird weight, feed, added feed, and mortality
  • Repair, align, and construct cages, pens, or equipment (feeders, water lines, lights, vents, etc.)
• Collect Data within Dissection Laboratory (40%):
  • Euthanize birds
  • Use scalpel to dissect birds into specific parts following accepted protocols
  • Visually score for defects in physiology
  • Use a caliper to collect data
  • Enter weights and defects into tablet or computer
  • Dispose of dead dissected birds into incinerators
• Other Duties, Responsibilities, and Activities (10%):
  • Collect swab samples
  • Clean, disinfect, and haul coops
  • Maintain foot bath, hand sanitizer, hydro-foamer, sweep, mop, and other general cleaning
  • Properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare

• The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing, and footwear before entering the facility (provided by the Company)
• No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical:
  • Must use safe lifting techniques
  • Regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally use wheeled dollies to lift and/or move up to 500 pounds of feed, supplies, etc.
  • Stand majority of shift on concrete
  • Walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects and controls
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Balance, climb ladders, stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day
  • Repetitive hand/wrist movements while dissecting birds with scalpel, knife, or other cutting instrument
  • Talk or hear, drive a vehicle within the farm complex
• Vision: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Communication: Good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns
• Tools and Equipment: Scale, Tablet, Scanner, Scalpel, Drill, Safety Knife, Pressure Washer
• Environment: Work on wet, slippery surfaces; hot, dry, extreme dusty, wet, and cold environments
• Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, cutting gloves, waterproof apron, rubber boots, ear plugs (as needed), NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators (as needed)
• Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Simple Green, Lysol, etc.
• Safety: Follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, and Personal Protective Equipment; identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks

Schedule

Monday through Friday, and rotating weekends, including holidays. Hours: 5:50am – 2:40pm. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.
