Starting pay: $18.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Schedule

• Sunday through Wednesday, including weekends and holidays
• Hours: 6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (subject to change based on production needs)

About the Role

Attends to and cares for hens by ensuring the flock has adequate feed, water, and ventilation. Collects and inspects eggs to ascertain quality and fitness for incubation. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Collects eggs from egg table, picks up eggs from floor, and records number of eggs laid (35%)
• Collects and handles eggs by observing/grading/cleaning and records egg quality; distributes or disposes according to Cobb standards (30%)
• Weighs feed, handles birds, and weighs birds according to schedules (15%)
• Changes and cleans nest pads, dusts nests, cleans walls and ceilings, maintains egg room in a clean state, and performs other routine housekeeping duties; adds/changes litter (10%)
• Records information such as egg numbers, bird weight, medications, feed intake, mortality, and production percentage (5%)
• Records number of floor eggs and works to eliminate these by training hens to use nest boxes
• Monitors feed, water, and ventilation systems
• Sanitizes egg collection room and changes foot pans
• Properly euthanizes weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy
• Removes dead birds and maintains rat bait stations
• Sprays insecticides and maintains a biosecure environment
• Walks the inside of poultry houses and collects weekly swabs for testing
• Performs minor maintenance and disposes of daily mortality
• Keeps poultry houses supplied with proper materials
• Cleans out poultry houses and disinfects them to prepare for birds
• Sets up houses for new birds, as needed

Requirements

• Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care)
• Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months
• Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days and no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods
• Applicants must reside in the United States
• Priority consideration for internal applicants and those with previous agricultural or production experience

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare/Safety Requirements

• Jobsite is a biosecure environment requiring showering and changing clothing/footwear before entering (provided by the company)
• No jewelry may be worn except for medical ID jewelry; body piercings must be covered by appropriate clothing
• Must agree to avoid contact with avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.)
• Must sign and abide by Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines
• Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety procedures

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Must use safe lifting techniques
• Regularly stoops/bends to floor level to collect eggs up to 300 times per shift
• Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 58 pounds (e.g., feed buckets, tools, trash cans)
• Stands for the majority of the shift on multiple floor surfaces (concrete, shavings)
• Frequent walking, sitting, handling objects, reaching with hands/arms, balancing, climbing ladders, and stooping/bending (up to 1,000 times per day)
• Must be able to talk, hear, and use specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment)
• Works on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments

Tools, Equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment

• Safety goggles/glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and company-issued footwear
• Ear plugs and NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators as needed
• Chemicals commonly used: Disinfectants (e.g., Glutex 2, Virocid, Lysol)

• Expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures (e.g., Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, Personal Protective Equipment)
• Expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks
