Starting pay: $18.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Schedule

Sunday-Wednesday (with every seventh Saturday from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM). Shift begins at 5:10 PM until the job is complete. This position averages 40-45 hours per week, including working holidays. Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule.

About the Role

Pulls chicks and places them for processing; properly disposes of substandard chicks; operates high-pressure washer to clean trays, dollies, hatchery, and uses a high-pressure hose to sanitize trays, dollies, hatchery, and equipment. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Pads up to 1,500 empty chick boxes weighing approximately 2 pounds (15%).
  • Lifts boxes of 100 chicks weighing approximately 15 pounds and stacks them into stacks of 10, 1,500 times (15%).
  • Pushes 10 stacked boxes with birds averaging 15 pounds per box into a row approximately 150 times (15%).
  • Pushes/pulls hatcher baskets on casters full of chicks into the Pull Room, weighing approximately 500–1,000 pounds (15%).
  • Places up to 150,000 chicks weighing approximately 40 grams onto a belt. Must take hatcher baskets off stacks of 15 high, each basket weighing approximately 35 pounds (overhead lifting required) (15%).
  • Puts empty trays (48 inches x 16.8 inches) weighing approximately 6.25 pounds into the tray wash machine (15%).
  • Takes clean, empty trays out of the tray washer and restacks them into stacks of 15 high approximately 1,300 times (15%).
  • Other duties may include:
    • Reading temperatures and reporting failures in setters, and reading temperature and humidity in incubators every three hours.
    • Washing and foaming pull and tray wash rooms using a high-pressure hose and regular water hose.
    • Pulling loaded setter buggies on casters weighing approximately 700–1,300 pounds.
    • Operating box washer.
    • Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
    • Properly euthanizing weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%).

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no employment gaps greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care).
  • Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days and no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Applicants must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.
  • Priority consideration for internal applicants and those with previous agricultural or production experience.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements:
    • Must shower and change clothing/footwear before entering the facility (provided by the company).
    • No jewelry may be worn except for medical ID jewelry, and body piercings must be covered by appropriate clothing.
    • Must sign an agreement to avoid contact with avian species (e.g., chickens, ducks, birds).
    • Must sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Regularly lifts and stacks chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 12 pounds.
  • Regularly pushes or pulls stacks of boxes up to 125 pounds.
  • Regularly pulls/pushes 700 to 1,300 pounds (wheeled dolly).
  • Stands for the majority of the shift on a concrete floor; walks; uses hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms; balances; stoops; talks or hears.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Works on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required:
    • Safety glasses, goggles, face shield.
    • Chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots.
    • Ear plugs as needed.
    • NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators as needed.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Hand sanitizer, disinfectants, foamers, formaldehyde.
  • Must follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, and PPE.
  • Expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks.

Relocation assistance is not eligible for this role.
