Schedule

Monday, Tuesday through Thursday from 5:10 am to 3:10 pm. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

About the role

This position is responsible for inspecting eggs to ascertain quality and fitness for incubation, processing chicks, and cleaning/sanitizing hatchery and equipment by performing all essential duties. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Prepares eggs for incubation by:
  • Grading eggs while traying to observe for defects such as shell color, texture, cracks, etc.
  • Transferring pedigree eggs without mixing hen numbers
  • Placing substandard eggs (broken, dirty, etc.) in container for disposal
  • Packing eggs in cases for international orders
• Processes day-old chicks by:
  • Counting, vaccinating, wing banding
  • Delivering chicks within the complex
  • Entering data using a touch screen tablet (60% of time)
• Maintains a sanitary environment by:
  • Operating tray washer
  • Operating high pressure sprayer and/or water hose to clean and sanitize setters, hatchers, egg rooms, chick processing area, and hatchery vehicles
  • Performing the collection of weekly hatchery monitoring samples including air plates and swabs
  • Fumigating specified areas of facility as required (30% of time)
• Other duties (10% of time):
  • Holding eggs before a shielded light to determine fertility
  • Assisting egg drivers with sorting pedigree eggs by line/hen and placing hatching eggs in buggies
  • Performing other duties of egg driver and/or hatchery monitor to cover absences
  • Maintaining vehicle by checking fluid levels, filters, tire pressure, and clean/disinfect to remove debris
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work/break area

Requirements

• Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months (extended to 18 months for layoffs or child/elder care)
• Previous work history does not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months
• Rehire criteria: minimum waiting period of 180 days; no more than 3 prior employments at Cobb/Tyson Foods
• Applicants must reside in the United States
• Priority consideration for internal applicants and those with previous agricultural or production experience

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements

• Showering and changing clothing/footwear before entering the facility (provided by the company)
• No jewelry except medical ID jewelry; body piercings must be covered by appropriate clothing
• Must sign an agreement to avoid contact with avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.)
• Must sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines

Physical Demands

• Must use safe lifting techniques
• Regularly lift and stack chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 15 pounds
• Occasionally push or pull stacks of boxes up to 125 pounds
• Occasionally pull/push 500 to 1000 pounds (wheeled carts)
• Stand majority of shift on concrete floor
• Walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects/tools/controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, bend/stoop, talk, or hear
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

• Work on wet, slippery surfaces
• Work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments
• Use of hand tools such as broom, squeegee, vaccination gun, wire cutters
• Required personal protective equipment: ear plugs, safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical resistant gloves, waterproof apron, rubber boots, company-provided facial covering
• Optional personal protective equipment: NIOSH-approved N95 particulate respirators, cotton gloves, rain suits
• Chemicals commonly used: formaldehyde, peroxide, disinfectants, vehicle fluids, and lubricants
• Must follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, and Personal Protective Equipment
• Expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks
