Schedule

Monday through Friday, including holidays. Hours: 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This position generally averages 40 hours per week. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Pay

Starting pay $19.05 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.

About the role

This position is responsible for the collection of all biotechnology samples and routine blood samples for the gain of pedigree chickens.

Responsibilities

  • Uses needle/syringe/lancet to collect blood samples from Pedigree birds to monitor health and diseases. (30%)
  • Cleans and sanitizes blood testing instruments and prepares sampling equipment for next pull. (10%)
  • Records information according to instructions for sampling of Pedigree birds. (30%)
  • Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as:
    • Moving birds as required
    • Washing/disinfecting vehicles
    • Properly euthanizing selected or weak/ill/injured birds in accordance with company policy
    • Farming out to other areas during downtime
    • May travel to various farms for training or assisting with projects

Requirements

  • Must have at least 6 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full-time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering on-site and changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company.
  • No jewelry may be worn on the job site except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical:

  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Will occasionally lift and/or move, using two Team Members, up to 50 pounds to move items such as bird coops.
  • Regularly required to stand majority of shift on multiple floor surfaces (concrete floor, shavings); walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop/bend repeatedly; climb/ladder usage; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Environment:

  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet, and cold environments.

Personal Protective Equipment Required:

  • Safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and farm-issued footwear are required.
  • Ear plugs will be used as needed.

Chemicals Commonly Used: Synergize, Virocid, Lysol, Bleach, Clorox wipes, etc.

Safety: Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO, and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address, and mitigate safety-related risks.
