About the role

Responsible for the daily direction of the quality inspectors. Performs product inspections/audits to verify product conformance to established standards. Documents and communicates results of inspections/audits to appropriate leadership. Participates in problem-solving team activities, as required. Performs other duties as identified by the Quality Manager, Quality Supervisor or Quality Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for inspection processes by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Maintains standards of health and safety, hygiene, housekeeping, and security in the work environment.
  • Completes production requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; monitors work results.
  • Identifies problems and elicits coordination with supervision and management to plan and proactively mitigate issues.
  • Motivates, organizes, and encourages individual and team levels to meet productivity targets.
  • Maintains/improves metrics by reviewing reports and data and making appropriate adjustments.
  • Develops employees’ job skills, teamwork, and growth ambitions through coaching and mentoring.
  • Provides team training via visual inspection, measurement, testing, etc.
  • Inspects product/part quality to established standards (work instructions, appearance standards, test requirement standards, drawings, blueprints, forms, testers, test equipment, processes, and procedures).
  • Understands hazardous materials/equipment and ensures proper safe handling; follows all policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Understands basic functions of a computer/tablet and can navigate an ERP/QMS system or willingness to learn.
  • Understands basic functions of a multimeter and willingness to use it for inspection/testing of engineering and obsolete product.
  • Assists in maintaining the QC Lab and performing necessary tests on resin and gel coat.
  • Shows initiative, courage, integrity, and bases decisions on what is best for the company, not the individual.
  • Leads by example and builds relationships through effective communication across departments.
  • Oversees the use of quality inspection software to assure accurate data input and reporting.
  • Pursues personal growth and seeks opportunities for ongoing learning and professional certification.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Leadership of teams and coaching others required; supervisory skills and experience preferred.
  • Ability to lead meetings and present information within the team environment.
  • Experience with on-the-water boat operation, lamination, assembly processes, and finished products.
  • Ability to read and interpret business documents, data, build sheets, blueprints/drawings including industry technical standards.
  • Knowledge of general business computer software and aptitude to learn new software applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Outlook (email/meetings), Word & PowerPoint (creating technical documentation), Excel (data analytics and charts/trends reporting).
  • GED required; additional education encouraged.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, electronic mail, procedures, and performance documents in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and other employees.
  • Ability to effectively conduct meetings in person and with technology assistance.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists or follow existing standards.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment

  • Typical 10-hour workdays based upon facility.
  • Typical 4- or 5-day work week schedule based upon facility and schedule loading.
  • Overtime is occasional to frequent based on production requirements.
  • Required to work indoors and outdoors, year-round and in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work during production shutdowns or other “off-schedule” periods.
  • Safety glasses required while in production areas. Other PPE may be required based on specific projects.
  • Work environment includes heat/cold, dust/dampness, height, chemicals, and noise.
