Coach (Prop 28): Mural Paint Coach - Independence High School

About the role

The East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD) is seeking a talented and passionate Mural Artist as a coach to collaborate with Visual Arts Instructors. This role involves working with high school students to design, plan, and implement a mural project as part of the visual arts curriculum. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about working with teens, have a collaborative and open-minded approach, and be committed to fostering an atmosphere of creativity and expression that celebrates diversity.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Visual Arts Instructor to design a mural that aligns with the educational goals of the Visual Arts course and engages students in critical thinking and creative problem-solving.
• Guide students through the creative process of planning, sketching, and executing the mural.
• Mentor and support students in developing their artistic skills while creating a meaningful and impactful piece of public art.
• Provide guidance on techniques such as large-scale painting, color theory, composition, and other mural-specific skills.
• Ensure knowledge of safety practices, appropriate materials, and maintenance considerations for outdoor and indoor mural projects.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a mural artist, with a portfolio that showcases completed mural projects.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work alongside Visual Arts Instructors to enhance curriculum and student engagement.
• Ability to guide students through the creative process, from concept development and design to planning, surface preparation, and installation.
• Experience working with youth, especially teenagers, preferred.
• Must complete Edjoin online application, submit a resume, and provide letters of recommendation/reference.
• Selected candidates must pass fingerprint clearance and provide current TB test results prior to employment.
