About the Role
The East Side Union High School District (ESUHSD) seeks a skilled, passionate, dynamic, and experienced Dance Coach to provide in-class instruction in hip-hop. Throughout the school year, the coach will work alongside a credentialed teacher at District High Schools, supporting intermediate, advanced, and company-level classes. This role includes instruction, rehearsal preparation, and performance support at one or more school sites, contributing to high-quality dance education for a diverse student body.
Responsibilities
- Deliver in-class dance coaching in collaboration with site dance teacher
- Teach technical skills, choreography, and performance readiness in hip-hop and additional genres (jazz, ballet, tap, modern)
- Choreograph or support student choreography for school productions and district events
- Foster student creativity, discipline, and teamwork in a culturally responsive and inclusive environment
- Attend and assist in tech rehearsals and performances
- Communicate effectively with site staff, students, and families as needed
- Support costume planning, rehearsal management, and show logistics
- May be assigned to District Dance courses at multiple sites to meet the requirement of base assignment
Requirements
- Proven experience in teaching and choreographing hip-hop and at least one other genre (jazz, tap, ballet, or modern)
- Experience teaching high school-aged students in an educational or studio setting
- Strong classroom management and culturally responsive teaching practices
- Must complete Edjoin online application, submit a resume, and provide letters of recommendation/reference
- Selected candidates must pass fingerprint clearance and provide current TB test results prior to employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or formal training in Dance or Performing Arts
- Bilingual or multilingual preferred
- Familiarity with public school arts programs and working with diverse student populations
