Essential & Related Job Functions
The City of Onalaska is seeking an Instructor and Traveling Coach to develop and implement basic practice plans and lessons, coach teams, teach sportsmanship, and manage program equipment and facilities.
- Develops and implements basic practice plans and/or lessons.
- Coaches teams in the department/in-house recreational leagues (within community).
- Teaches participants the importance of sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork.
- Teaches participants the basic rules and regulations of the sport (i.e. baseball, football, volleyball, basketball, etc.).
- Learns and evaluates participant's skill level.
- Develops team roles for assistant coaches/volunteers and parents.
- Develops team guidelines.
- Distributes and collects program materials such as equipment, plans, uniforms, schedules and forms.
- Assists with the set-up and cleanup of facilities.
- Reports injuries, facility hazards, and program concerns to the Recreation Manager or designee.
- Responds to accidents and emergencies in an appropriate manner; administering first aid accordingly.
- Attends training and organizational meetings as requested.
- Maintains communication with program participants, program and office staff.
- Solves conflicts between participant parents, participants, coaches and officials/umpires.
- Contributes to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work, as needed or requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not necessary.
- Student or adult with sports knowledge.
- Supervision and leadership techniques/skills desired.
- Experience playing, coaching or being part of a sport or program of similar nature.
- Must work with minimum supervision.
