Coach Cleaner (Kenosha, WI)
Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Illinois (Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, McHenry, Elburn and Waukegan) and Wisconsin (Kenosha). The agency links communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient service. The Mechanical Department oversees all rolling stock, including 150 locomotives, 845 coach cars, 186 highliners, and 530+ fleet vehicles, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient operation across the Metra System.
The Mechanical Department performs all Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) inspections (daily, quarterly, semiannual, annual, tri-annual, quad, etc.) and provides daily cleaning services for all rolling stock. Additionally, the department purchases new equipment, rehabilitates, modifies, maintains, and performs wreck repairs on all rolling stock to improve state of good repair and on-time performance.
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain passenger cars and equipment.
Requirements
- Experience in manual-type labor, including functions such as climbing, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling.
- Required to lift and carry up to 30 lbs of water to mop floors.
- Experience using shop and highway vehicles, brooms, mops, and hoses.
- Must not be in an active review period under the current discipline policy or have documented attendance or performance issues.
- Metra prohibits the use or possession of marijuana (or paraphernalia) or detectable amounts of THC for any reason, including pre-employment screening, while on duty, subject to duty, on Metra property, or in Metra work equipment and vehicles, regardless of state laws.
Pay
Salary Range: $31.84 - $34.24 per hour. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
This is a Union position. Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.
