About the role
The Mechanical Department is responsible for all rolling stock, including 150 locomotives, 845 coach cars, 186 highliners, and 530+ fleet vehicles. The department ensures that rolling stock operates safely, effectively, and efficiently throughout the Metra System. Responsibilities include performing all Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) inspections (daily, quarterly, semiannual, annual, tri-annual, quad, etc.), daily cleaning services, purchasing new equipment, rehabilitating, modifying, maintaining, and repairing all rolling stock to improve state of good repair and on-time performance.
This position involves cleaning and maintaining passenger cars and equipment. It is a Union position, and starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks including climbing, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling.
- Lift and carry up to 30 lbs of water to mop floors.
- Use shop and highway vehicles, brooms, mops, and hoses for cleaning and maintenance.
Requirements
- Experience in manual-type labor involving physical functions such as climbing, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling.

Pay
Salary Range: $31.84 - $34.24 per hour.
