JOB REQUIREMENTS

The City of Onalaska is seeking students and adults with sports knowledge to fill the role of Instructor and Traveling Coach. This position requires supervision from the Recreation Manager/Coordinator and involves developing and implementing practice plans, coaching teams, teaching sportsmanship and rules, leading practices, and managing program equipment.

  • Develops and implements basic practice plans and/or lessons.
  • Coaches teams in the department/in-house recreational leagues (within community).
  • Teaches participants the importance of sportsmanship, cooperation, and teamwork.
  • Teaches participants the basic rules and regulations of the sport (i.e. baseball, football, volleyball, basketball, etc.).
  • Leads practices and evaluates participant's skill level.
  • Develops team roles for assistant coaches/volunteers and parents.
  • Develops team guidelines.
  • Distributes and collects program materials such as equipment, plans, uniforms, schedules and forms.
  • Responsible for the program equipment and the condition of equipment.
  • Aids in the set-up and cleanup of facilities.
  • Reports injuries, facility hazards, and program concerns to the Recreation Manager or designee.
  • Responds to accidents and emergencies in an appropriate manner; administering first aid accordingly.
  • Attends training and organizational meetings as requested.
  • Maintains communication with program participants, program and office staff.
  • Resolves conflicts between participant parents, participants, coaches and officials/umpires.
  • Contributes to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work, as needed or requested.

Compensation

The wage range for these seasonal, limited-term positions is $10.00 to $13.00 per hour depending on qualifications and budget. There are no benefits associated with limited-term positions.
