Coach - Assistant Cross Country, JCHS
FLSA Status: Exempt. Reports to: Head Coach and Activities Director.
About the Role
The Jefferson City School District is seeking a qualified Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach and Activities Director in serving the district’s 9,000 students across 11 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 high schools, 1 alternative school, 1 preschool, and various alternative educational programs. The assistant coach will collaborate with the head coach and activities director to deliver high-level service to students while promoting a culture of academic excellence. The role involves helping students develop skills, discipline, sportsmanship, and self-esteem.
Responsibilities
- Teach and coach students to achieve the highest possible skill level in the assigned sport, aligning with the district’s academic values.
- Plan and schedule regular in-season practices.
- Work closely with the head coach to enforce discipline, sportsmanlike behavior, and penalties for violations.
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills.
- Assist the head coach in organizing and supervising the sports program.
- Ensure compliance with safety practices and all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid Missouri teacher certificate.
- Employment as a teacher in the Jefferson City School District.
- Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport (preferred).
- Satisfactory background clearance as required by the district.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
The role requires physical demands including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and fine finger dexterity. The assistant coach must be able to perform in various physical conditions, such as outdoor weather or surface-related environments, and assist with game plans or other tasks assigned by the head coach.
