About the role

The head coach reports to the athletic director and building principals. The job goal is to instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training, leading to individual and team success. The coach must also model socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment.

Responsibilities

• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
• Follow oral and written instructions
• Work independently
• Exercise common sense and good judgment
• Implement athletic policies
• Understand and interpret system, state, and league regulations
• Refer requests or grievances through proper channels
• Establish and teach fundamental skills and techniques
• Design and conduct staff meetings
• Train and inform staff
• Delegating specific duties and analyzing staff effectiveness
• Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and increase morale
• Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards during practices, games, and travel
• Complete paperwork on disabling injuries
• Advise the athletic director and recommend policy changes
• Monitor equipment and authorize access
• Examine locker rooms and secure facilities
• Communicate with supervisors and maintain professional relationships
• Ensure safety of students
• Participate in budgeting and equipment management
• Coordinate with maintenance and school employees
• Provide documentation for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility
• Protect and safeguard equipment sites
• Initiate programs and policies related to injuries, medical attention, and emergencies
• Assist in preparing for scheduled sport events or practices
• Coordinate with the athletic director and principal
• Assist in scheduling, transportation, and tournament requirements
• Provide training rules and unique regulations of the sport
• Advise athletes on character traits and responsibilities
• Monitor and maintain specific sport equipment
• Secure and authorize access to equipment rooms and coaches' offices
• Permit athletes to be in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times
• Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games
• Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment
• Secure doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building
• Instill respect for equipment and school property
• Organize preseason meetings
• Promote the sport within and outside the school
• Communicate with the news media
• Maintain good public relations with stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with district training requirements
• Adhere to Board of Education policies
• Complete all required training and comply with all policies

  Qualifications

  • Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (Major sports)
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to organize and supervise a total sports program
  • Able to submit an acceptable background check
  • Able to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions
  • Able to maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and increase morale and cooperation
  • Able to provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards during practices, games, and travel
  • Able to complete paperwork on disabling injuries
  • Able to advise the athletic director and recommend policy changes
