Description For Candidates

The role supports the development, validation, and optimization of emissions control systems and associated components through rigorous test planning, data analysis, and cross-functional coordination. The ideal candidate will apply engineering, programming, and data processing skills to enable robust product development and support continuous improvement within the Decomp Reactor Development (DRD) organization.

Primary Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead test planning and execution for emissions and performance validation campaigns, including NH₃ UI, mixer, and aftertreatment subsystems.
  • Develop, automate, and maintain data analysis tools using MATLAB, LabView, and Excel to support test repeatability and reporting.
  • Cook with Lab Operations, Product Engineers, and Functional Teams to ensure high-quality test execution aligned with Cummins processes (e.g., VPC support, 6 Sigma, EPA compliance).
  • Utilize flow dynamics expertise to support analysis of urea injection systems, mixers, and sensor data interpretation.
  • Create and maintain process documentation including RACI charts, test procedures, tuning documentation, and validation plans.
  • Provide timely and detailed technical presentations and documentation using PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
  • Collaborate on process and tool improvement initiatives, contributing to TDAT, CROSS Tool, and emissions modeling strategies.
  • Support Six Sigma, performance management, and community engagement initiatives as aligned with team and corporate values.

Qualifications And Competencies

  • MATLAB: Used for emissions data analysis, algorithm development, and test tool coding.
  • LabView: Interface development for data acquisition and control.
  • Coding (e.g., Python, VBA): Supports automation, data processing, and integration of tools.
  • RACI: Clear understanding of cross-functional responsibilities and stakeholder roles.
  • Minitab: Statistical analysis for design of experiments and 6 Sigma support.
  • Microsoft Excel (Advanced): Complex data manipulation, dashboard creation, and test result processing.
  • Microsoft Outlook: Professional communication, scheduling, and tracking.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint: Reporting and technical storytelling to cross-functional and leadership teams.
  • PTC Creo: Ability to interpret 3D models and drawings for test planning and analysis.
  • Microsoft Project: Used for timeline and resource management in validation projects.
  • Flow Dynamics: Strong understanding of physical flow behavior critical to emissions systems.

Required Skills, Education, Or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Eng. preferred; open to Electrical or Chemical Eng.
  • Experience in validation, test development, or data analysis engineering roles.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred (Nice To Have)

  • Six Sigma skills or equivalent experience in process improvement projects.
  • Hands-on experience with emissions or fluid systems (e.g., SCR, mixers, sensors).
  • Experience working within Cummins engineering tools, processes, or organizational structures (e.g., VPC, VPI, PPS, PPT, etc).
