About the Role
The Co-Medical Director of the Tamer Institute for Women’s Health provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for a comprehensive women’s health program at the University of Miami Health System. This role is responsible for advancing an integrated, patient-centered model of care addressing the unique health needs of women from adolescence through healthy aging, including preventive care, reproductive health, menopause and perimenopause management.
The Co-Medical Director will guide the Institute in delivering seamless, life-phase-tailored care and redefine women’s healthcare in South Florida by creating a first-of-its-kind model combining clinical excellence, research innovation, education, and holistic personalized care.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of UHealth and responsible to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Co-Medical Director will champion clinical excellence, innovation, quality improvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, research, education, and community engagement while supporting the Institute’s mission to become a nationally recognized destination for comprehensive women’s healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Provide physician leadership and oversight for all clinical programs within the Institute.
- Develop and implement evidence-based clinical pathways, standards of care, and best practices.
- Ensure high-quality, safe, equitable, and patient-centered care delivery.
- Foster collaboration among physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Support the development of multidisciplinary care models that improve patient outcomes and access.
- Partner with executive leadership to define and execute the Institute’s strategic vision.
- Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and service expansion.
- Lead the development of new clinical programs and specialty services addressing emerging women’s health needs.
- Establish strategic partnerships within UHealth and across the community.
- Monitor and improve clinical quality metrics, patient safety indicators, patient satisfaction, and operational performance.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives aligned with UHealth’s goals.
- Promote data-driven decision-making and accountability throughout the organization.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards.
- Support and promote clinical, translational, and population health research focused on women’s health.
- Collaborate with faculty investigators to expand research opportunities and external funding.
- Encourage participation in clinical trials and innovative care models.
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain outstanding clinical faculty and staff.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, professionalism, accountability, and inclusion.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development initiatives.
- Build interdisciplinary teams dedicated to advancing women’s health.
- Serve as an ambassador for the Tamer Institute for Women’s Health and UHealth within the community.
- Promote women’s health education, outreach, and preventive care initiatives.
- Develop partnerships with community organizations, employers, and advocacy groups.
- Represent the Institute at regional and national conferences and professional organizations.
- Collaborate with administrative leadership to achieve financial sustainability and operational excellence.
- Participate in budgeting, resource allocation, and strategic investments.
- Monitor clinical productivity, access metrics, and program performance.
- Support initiatives that improve efficiency, patient access, and care coordination.
- Ensure internal control oversight and compliance with laws, regulations, and University policies.
- Provide strategic and clinical leadership for the Institute's multidisciplinary women's health initiatives.
- Advance integrated care models that improve outcomes, access, and patient experience across the continuum of women's healthcare.
- Champion research, innovation, education, and program development to establish national leadership in women's health.
- Partner with institutional leaders to drive growth, quality, physician engagement, and philanthropic opportunities.
- Serve as a key spokesperson and thought leader for the Institute at the local, national, and international levels.
- Foster collaboration among specialties including cardiology, internal medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, psychiatry, primary care, and obstetrics and gynecology to advance integrated women's healthcare delivery.
- Support the development and expansion of clinical programs focused on prevention, chronic disease management, healthy aging, and conditions disproportionately impacting women.
- Promote research, innovation, and clinical trials focused on sex- and gender-specific medicine, translating scientific discoveries into improved patient care.
- Participate in physician recruitment, mentorship, and faculty development to build a nationally recognized women's health program.
Requirements
- MD or DO from an accredited institution.
- Active Florida MD or DO license with board certification in a recognized medical specialty, except for Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in leading clinical strategy in an academic medical center or other clinical enterprise.
