CNHF VP Major & Principal Gifts
About the Role
The Vice President, Major & Principal Gifts will serve as a visionary, mission-driven leader reporting directly to the Foundation President and acting as a key member of the executive leadership team. This role will design and lead a best-in-class philanthropic strategy focused on major, principal, and transformational gifts from individuals and foundations. The VP will oversee strategic engagement for board, volunteer, and hospital leaders, as well as cultivate and grow international fundraising. Responsibilities include advancing the hospital’s mission through donor and board engagement, innovative fundraising initiatives, and global partnerships. The VP will lead a high-performing team, oversee a portfolio generating approximately $50 million annually, and ensure attainment of campaign goals while personally managing a select group of high-net-worth donors and prospects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies to manage and grow a comprehensive major and principal gift program in partnership with the Foundation President.
- Oversee the major gifts program, evolving it to deliver best-in-class fundraising and ensure donor satisfaction.
- Drive strategic engagement for all Foundation-affiliated boards and councils, as well as philanthropic engagement for additional CNH governing boards and committees.
- Ensure a coordinated and collaborative approach to fundraising across the organization.
- Identify and implement creative strategies, initiatives, and campaigns to increase organizational performance.
- Develop and maintain best fundraising and operational practices with clearly defined goals, objectives, and transparent success metrics.
- Foster an organizational environment where teamwork, collaboration, and dedication are expected and required.
- Contribute to the fulfillment of the organization’s mission, campaign, and philanthropic goals.
- Oversee all major gift strategies and initiatives, ensuring reporting and tracking of results.
- Work closely with Foundation Leadership to resolve strategic issues.
- Staff and support members of the hospital’s senior leadership team and CEO as needed.
- Direct the Associate Vice President of Major and Principal Gifts to optimize program performance and growth.
- Oversee major gift center directors to ensure their programs are performing and growing.
- Build high-functioning volunteer leadership with staff collaboration.
- Develop quarterly metrics for each fundraiser, coaching and ensuring achievement of these metrics.
- Model and coach creative approaches to problem-solving based on good judgment and collaboration.
- Lead efforts to increase fundraising in major, principal, and international giving programs.
- Develop and engage volunteer leaders in the major and principal giving fundraising process.
- Strategically support leadership and volunteers in fundraising, including leading or participating in gift solicitations.
- Design and execute a robust plan for increasing international philanthropy, securing Hospital and Board approval for strategic international partnerships.
- Maintain a personal portfolio of priority donors and prospects, advancing $1M+ gift strategies and proposals.
- Lead the major gifts department to achieve $50M+ annually, requiring significant international travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (Required).
- Master’s Degree (Preferred).
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in major and principal gift fundraising, including planned giving.
- At least 7 years of senior management experience leading high-performing teams.
- Proven track record of successful staff management and fundraising.
- Proven track record of securing $1M+ gifts and managing complex donor relationships.
- Demonstrated success in building, managing, and moving a pipeline of donors and prospects.
- Capital campaign experience is preferred.

Pay
The disclosed salary range for this position is $201,406.40 - $335,691.20. The exact pay rate will be based on factors such as current market conditions, organizational needs, and the individual’s combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications.
