CNC Technician

About the role

The CNC technician operates computer-controlled machines fitted with rotating spindles that hold lenses. Using a combination of tooling, liquid abrasive, and coolant, the technician shapes the lenses to a specified radius and thickness.

Responsibilities

• Regularly set up and shut down of CNC machines for each job
• Understand and use work instructions
• Adjust machines to produce parts according to specifications
• Use test equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators and calipers
• Set up and operate interferometers
• Properly clean equipment daily
• Routine maintenance of machine, pre-mixing polishing compounds; and, preparation and maintenance of polishing tools and beveling of parts

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• One to three months related experience and/or training
• Basic Computer Skills are beneficial
• Ability to understand, speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 30 pounds

• Equivalent combination of education and experience

Computer Skills

Basic Computer Skills are Beneficial.

Language Skills

Ability to understand, speak and read English to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Abilities

Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve common problems associated with the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet/humid conditions, abrasive liquid, sharp glass edges, coolant, and occasional fumes and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
