The role
The role of a CNC Swiss Setup Machinist involves several key responsibilities, requiring strong hands-on machining experience and the ability to independently set up and operate Swiss-type lathes.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings to understand the geometric requirements and tolerances of the parts being produced.
- Set up and operate Star Swiss-type CNC lathes for high-precision medical components.
- Perform complete machine setups using setup sheets and process documentation.
- Measure parts using precision inspection equipment to ensure compliance with tight tolerances.
- Make tool and wear offsets to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Change tools and verify proper tool condition and placement.
- Perform routine machine maintenance to ensure optimal machine performance.
- Complete first article inspections and maintain production standards.
- Monitor machining processes for tolerances, surface finish, and defects.
- Inspect parts accurately to blueprint specifications and quality requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of CNC Swiss machining experience (Star or similar Swiss-style lathes).
- Proven ability to independently set up CNC machines from setup sheets.
- Strong experience with measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.).
- Experience making offsets and adjusting tooling for precision parts.
- Solid understanding of blueprint reading and tight tolerance machining.
- Experience working with Star Swiss machines, including SR10J, SR20J, SR20J3, SR20R4, and SV20.
