CNC Programmer / Operator - Columbia Falls

About the role

Nomad Global Communications Solutions is a leading provider of communication and response products. We seek a self-inspired CNC Programmer / Operator who demonstrates a high degree of customer service and positively contributes to our team. This role manages, programs, operates, and maintains computer numeric controlled (CNC) equipment for prototype and production parts within our facility.

Responsibilities

• Program and operate CNC laser sheet cutter and CNC laser tube cutter.
• Serve as a backup operator for CNC router.
• Implement and operate future CNC equipment, such as CNC mill and lathe.
• Review electronic or printed drawings.
• Collaborate with CNC operators, technicians, and engineers to determine project scope, schedule, and job details.
• Determine laser parameters, methods, tooling, feeds, speeds, and other manufacturing requirements.
• Keep supervisor informed of operations, problems, and opportunities.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation.
• Resolve machining or assembly problems with engineers, production personnel, and programmers.
• Model cutting paths and program machines using computer software.
• Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy.
• Study drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces.
• Verify compliance of finished workpieces to specifications.
• Identify and troubleshoot worn tooling, alignment issues, and quality-related problems.
• Work irregular hours to accommodate manufacturing schedules if needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience with AlmaCAM cut and/or AlmaCAM Tube, MasterCAM, SigmaTek, or Metallix.
• Machine shop and welding knowledge.
• Understanding and application of Nomad Core Values.
• High school diploma or GED; college degree or 2+ years of vocational education in CNC machining preferred.
• Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in programming and operating CNC equipment.
• Mechanically inclined with strong problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Physical Demands

• Regular use of hands and arms to manipulate, handle, feel, reach, or operate objects, tools, or controls.
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and crawling.
• Frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds; assistance required for anything heavier.
• Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus and distinguish colors.
• Physical stamina to work in awkward positions and stand for prolonged periods.

Working Environment

• Partially environmentally controlled indoor area with temperatures fluctuating between 60°F and 100°F, typically around 70°F.
• Occasional outdoor work required.
• Exposure to noise levels ranging from low to loud; safety hearing devices provided as needed.
• Possible exposure to household and commercial chemicals; adherence to safety protocols outlined in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) required.
• Mandatory wearing of OSHA-approved safety eyewear and closed-toed shoes on the production floor.
• Use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators or protective coveralls, may be necessary for specific tasks.
