CNC Operator III - Entry-US

About the role

Kennametal is seeking a CNC Operator III to join our team in LaVergne, TN. With over 80 years of industrial technology leadership, we provide precision and efficiency to our customers across various industries. This position operates multiple 5-6 axis end form grinding machines, including the EWAG Compact, Linear, or Haas models.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC 4 and 5 axis end form grinders.
• Orient inserts before grinding.
• Load and off-load inserts from multiple grinding machines.
• Gage inserts to ensure proper dimensions.
• Scope inserts to verify visual characteristics.
• Pull samples and record inspection results on route carts.
• Place inserts into appropriate racks before and after grinding.
• Separate scrap from good inserts and document accurately.
• Scan correct production information.
• Maintain tooling used in machines, resurfacing as needed.
• Operate other equipment as needed.
• Train new operators when required.
• Operate with commitment to working safely and understanding all safety procedures.
• Follow inspection control plan, ensuring product is processed according to proper routings, specifications, and quantities.
• Work to meet daily departmental production goals.
• Communicate safety, quality, and product issues with supervisor, team members, and across shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand for approximately eight hours per shift, with two scheduled breaks.
• Intermittent walking, reaching, bending, and sitting throughout the shift.
• Must be able to lift and move trays weighing up to 33 pounds.

Problem Solving

• Run orders by due date.
• Follow control plans and instructions communicated orally and carried out by standing guidelines.
• Inspect and modify tooling as required.
• Solve moderate to complex problems using learned knowledge of insert style, production processes, and sometimes coordination with technical experts.
• Recurring problems and major decisions receive supervisor attention.
