CNC Operator
About the role
CNC Operator-Set-up at Quickparts in Detroit, MI reports to the CNC Manager. This role involves building, leading, and transforming within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The primary responsibilities include programming and setting up mills, maintaining specifications, ensuring quality assurance, solving problems, and maintaining safe, clean operations.
Responsibilities
- Program mills by entering instructions, including zero and reference points, using Power Mill Software
- Set tool registers, offsets, tool compensation, and conditional switches by calculating requirements using basic math and geometry
- Set up mills by installing and adjusting tools, attachments, collets, bushings, stops, and indicating vices
- Maintain specifications by observing drilling, cutting, and facing operations
- Take measurements, detect malfunctions, and troubleshoot processes in real-time
- Adjust and reprogram controls, replace worn tools, and set tool heights
- Maintain safe and clean operations by observing all safety standards, rules, and wearing required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
- Adhere to quality assurance procedures and ISO 9001 standards
- Perform various other duties as required by the department manager
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years of experience with CNC set-up and programming
- HURCO and DMG-Mori CNC Operator experience preferred
- Power Mill software experience preferred
- CNC and Plastic injection molding knowledge and experience
- Strong mechanical ability, blueprint reading skills, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of ISO 9001
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Basic computer skills to perform department-related tasks
- Physical ability to stand, stoop, and bend for a minimum of 8 hours per day
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate common manufacturing machinery and hand tools
- Ability to visually read work instructions, gages, and monitors
- Ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school or equivalent preferred. At least 2 years of experience with CNC set-up and programming.
