About the Role

Set up and operate 2 or more conventional drills or mills.

Responsibilities

• Receive work instructions from supervisor
• Select cutters, spindle speeds, table feeds, fixtures, and other holding devices for specials and short-run jobs
• Follow setup detail prescribed on standardized/repetitive work, with flexibility to adjust within standard procedures for material variations, rigidity of setup, and cutting conditions
• Mount and secure cutting tools and holders
• Position, align, and clamp work-pieces
• Align and secure special attachments, dividing heads, and indexing fixtures
• Adjust table/head height on column and orient table or head to bring workpiece and cutter to reference point
• Set table feed, cutter speed, cutting depth, and travel stops
• Operate controls to make successive cuts or complete machining cycle
• Perform angle drilling to close tolerances where jigs are not provided
• Conduct deep-hole drilling where holes must be on location and to size
• Perform operations such as counterboring or spot-facing where depth and finish of holes are critical
• Tap holes, including blind holes where depth stops or tapping devices are not used
• Stamp/identify and burr parts
• Record production data as directed
• Maintain good housekeeping in immediate work area
• Cooperate with and receive assistance from other shop personnel
