About the role
SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to enable human life on Mars. As a CNC Machinist focused on Starship components, you will produce development, non-flight, and flight hardware to achieve quick-turn program goals in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate, set up, and program-edit CNC machines to produce hardware
- Perform precision set-ups of various CNC machines, preferably on Okuma mill-turn assets
- Prioritize daily work to meet customer need dates with the highest quality parts
- Manage cutting tools in CNC machines, ensuring tools are loaded and measured for upcoming programs
- Perform on-machine deburring to maintain consistent part quality with minimal human intervention
- Conduct weekly and monthly CNC machine preventative maintenance
- Maintain shop cleanliness, including chip bins, oils, greases, 5S, and general upkeep
- Remain flexible in a dynamic environment and support teammates as needed
- Complete work instructions and test plans to document process data
- Introduce innovative machining, fixturing, and tooling approaches to improve efficiency
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 3+ years of experience in CNC machining
- Estimated start times: 1st shift (5:00 AM) or 2nd shift (2:30 PM)
- Must be capable of lifting 35 lbs. unassisted
- Must be capable of standing and kneeling for 8 hours
- Ability to perform physical and repetitive movements (bending, twisting, handling tools)
- Ability to work in environments with distracting noise levels
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible for U.S. Department of State authorizations (ITAR requirements)
Preferred Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of experience operating CNC machinery
- Ability to program using Esprit CAD/CAM software
- Proficient in high-efficiency milling and turning
- Strong skills in shop math, tooling technology, blueprint reading, and part measurement
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic accurately
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including teamwork and cross-training abilities
- Capability to learn and operate all shop assets
Pay
Compensation varies by level and experience:
- Level 1: $23.00 - $27.00/hour
- Level 2: $26.00 - $32.50/hour
- Level 3: $31.00 - $38.00/hour
