CNC Machinist - Night Shift

Responsibilities

• Setup and operate CNC Machines under minimal instruction and supervision.
• Validate machine programs and work instructions before machining to assure accuracy of operations under minimal supervision.
• Detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required; correct issues to meet production goals.
• Set up and operate CNC Machines for first article to prove out program and setup instructions.
• Document actions by completing work order routings.
• Proof programs without assistance.
• Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Work as a team player in a demanding, fast-paced environment to meet frequently changing production requirements.
• Report problems to responsible management levels.
• Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety policies and procedures.
• Process remaining parts while conducting constant checks and inspections to ensure dimensional and surface finish requirements are met.
• Functional knowledge of Mazak, DMG Mori, and FANUC controlled CNC Horizontal Slant bed Lathes.
• Setup machine and tooling, load/unload parts, enter work and tool offsets, determine optimal manufacturing plan, develop required NC program, and execute program.

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent required; vocational education (commercial or shop training, technical school) preferred.
• 5-7 years of traditional machining experience, or comparable experience with trade school.
• Ability to learn and work with Conversational Programming and numeric control Programming, including understanding G&M Codes.
• Experience setting up and operating computer and mechanically controlled machine tools such as CNC Machines, grinder, drill press, hydraulic press, etc.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, clothing, glasses, goggles, respirator/face mask, ear plugs/muffs, and safety shoes continuously during the work shift.
• Work may be performed in areas with harmful physical and chemical agents (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing chemicals).
• Must participate in medical surveillance programs per HSE requirements.
• Must follow written and oral instructions and communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
• Must be willing and able to work flexible shifts and changing work schedules.

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and work order routings.
• Ability to hold tight machining tolerances and understand various tooling technologies.
• Select cutting tools without assistance.
• Apply math skills to solve shop problems using handbook formulas, basic geometry, and trigonometry.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic problems, including knowledge of machines and tools, their designs, and uses.
• Operation Monitoring: Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machines are working properly.
• Ability to develop NC programs as required to manufacture parts to engineering requirements.

Schedule

Able to operate a machine eight (8) to twelve (12) hours per day.
